The themes are related to the surroundings, nature, climate
and conditions of the art centre (the list will be completed all
the time)
All the themes have different meanings and points of view.
There are historical, nature, art, architectural and cultural
elements.
The intention of the group will be important to build up a collective view
in which every participant can find unexpected artistic aspects
and can develop a personal approach in cooperation,
investigation and realization through art projects.
It is also possible to create an own theme, and/or to come with
an own selected group of artists/students.
Individual students can apply for an student-in-residence to
execute an individual project related to their graduation or
research.

Art centre Saksala ArtRadius is a young private organization
in the field of art located in the rural area of Eastern
Finland. It is a unique place to build up international art
exchange.
The art centre in founded by the initiative of the Dutch artist
and art educator Marja de Jong in cooperation with the Dutch
sculptor Lucien den Arend and is housed in a former old people's
home in the small village Haukivuori (since January 1st 2007
part of the city Mikkeli). The buildings are surrounded by
forests, fields and lakes. The area is quiet and there is a lot
of space to have different kind of art activities.

Since the founding in 2003 (the first projects have been
started in spring 2005) there were organized symposiums,
contests, exhibitions and artist-in-residence. The art centre
will be a breeding ground for all who are interested in art and
art education and will offer programs and projects in the field
of art to different target groups.

Artists from all continents have participate in different
parts of the program. There were already artists from Thailand,
Australia, USA, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France,
Germany, Sweden, Poland, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Rumania, Turkey,
Austria, Japan, Cameroon and Norway.

The art centre is an important international art
organization for artists and students. Through the support/grants and subsidies from Finnish Arts
Council, Suomen Kulttuurirahasto (Finnish cultural
foundation), the Dutch AllaprimA Foundation, the city of Mikkeli, the Haukivuoren Aluejohtokunta,
the Maakuntaliitto and the European Union and different national
and international companies it is possible to organize many
different interesting art projects.

Saksala ArtRadius is part of an international art network
and is cooperating with the regional Arts Council, the AllaprimA
Foundation, ResArtis in Amsterdam NL, TransCultural Exchange in
Boston USA, the University of Applied Science in Mikkeli, de
KunstLinie in Almere NL. The art centre is part of the regional
artist-in-residence group TAIRE.

The art centre has an excellent reputation in creating
programs and projects for different target groups. It is
possible to make programs for professional artists, students and
masters of art academies, children, (art) teachers and free time
artists.

to get contacts, to build up their network and to cooperate in
art projects abroad.
