ARTISTS-IN-SAKSALA - MARY BUCCI MCCOY
VIRTUAL CATALOGUE OF ART WORKS
Mary Bucci McCoy was one of the artists presenting her work during the mentoring sessions in the conference
TransCultural Exchange
in Boston USA.
Born in New Jersey, Mary is a native of the Philadelphia area. She has resided
in the greater Boston area for twenty-six years. Since 2001 she has lived and
had her studio north of the city in the coastal town of Beverly.
Her work is informed by a sensitivity to the essential nature of the materials
she uses and an awareness of their relationship to natural processes and forms.
While it is marked by a reductive aesthetic, unlike minimalist work it explores
the irreproducible.
Her work is exhibited throughout the northeast, most recently in "Industrial
Strength," a three-person exhibit curated by
Kathleen Bitetti at Emmanuel College in Boston and "Mary Bucci McCoy: Oblique
Perspectives" at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA. It has appeared in
New American Paintings, and has been selected for the Cambridge Art
Association's National Prize Show and the Kingston Gallery’s annual New Art
exhibitions.
Mary holds a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA)/Tufts
University joint program and a BA in
English from Tufts. Funded by the SMFA's Alice Pratt Traveling Scholarship, for
the year following her graduation she studied ceramic sculpture and conducted
research into low-fire glazes and clay bodies for sculptural applications at
l'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Geneva, Switzerland. She has also done coursework
in a variety of areas (critical writing, photography, printmaking, design,
papermaking and book arts) at institutions including Massachusetts College of
Art, the University of Pennsylvania, and the SMFA.
