PRESENTATION
CROSSROADS SAKSALANHARJU
COLLABORATION MARCH 2010
TIINA MIELONEN - ALEXANDER NIKITIN - MARJA DE JONG - paintings and drawings
SIARD - MATIASS JANSONS - installation and video

After one month intensively working two different kind of art collaborations are
finished.
It has been a challenge to create a natural environment for artists to start
collaboration. Even it sounds simple: together working on a similar project, it
is not. Creating art is one of the most individual actions and demands lots of
concentration. It is the artist who starts the dialogue with their own
production and in that process the artist is solitaire.
Collaboration requires the willingness to share a (small) part with some one
else. This can start with working together in the same room, discussing together
about an important artistic item, vision and can go up to work in the same art
piece. In this project it was not a must to do the last option, the idea of the
project is based on in what way artists cross their own boundary and are open
for accepting influences from a colleague.
It is fabulous to to see how careful the participating artists are in
crossing these boundaries by themselves as well as by the other party.
Working together for one month, away from home and own atelier, focusing on the
local environment and society is creating an atmosphere in which stepping in
unknown directions is inviting.
The three visual artists Tiina Mielonen (Finland), Alexander Nikitin (Finland,
born and studied in Russia) and Marja de Jong (Finland - born and studied in the
Netherlands) have intensively worked on an art production based on getting
involved in the artistic view of the collaborating partners.
They have worked during one month in the same atelier near to each other and
have explored the different artistic visions.
To get involved in the art works of other artists and to find out what the
common grounds are and how to explore it is an intensive process, which needs a
long time. The process is demanding an open mind and the intention to create
common areas to work together. The art works of these three artists are finally
individual works, but the outcome of it is the result of the visual dialogue
during the whole process. Each artist has made steps in a deviating direction.
Sometimes in color, sometimes in form composition or material.
This collaboration has an own authentic result in which the respect for the
other view can be seen.
The starting point of the other collaboration partners, Siard (Finland - born
and studied in the Netherlands) and Matiass Jansons (Latvia) has been different.
Their time was shorter and both artists are working in a different field of art.
Siard is a media artist and Matiass a sculptor. Finally they create a work on
the interface of static and dynamic. The sculptures of Matiass are part of a
time document of Siard. The video registration is the documentation of changing
in time and structure.
The initiative of Tiina Mielonen to open a book to start a visual dialogue
between the artists opens the way to reflect on the other works and also to
start something new. This book will stay in the art center and other artists
will be invited to use continue in it.
The location has been inspiring all the artists. From inside to outside, from
view to modeling, it opens for every artist new perspectives and allows new
visions and reflections.
