    artist-in-residence

The art centre offers artists from all over Europe, who have just finished their studies, the opportunity to expand their formative ideas intensively. Young artists from academies from all over Europe can work here during shorter or longer periods. There are studios (30 to 35 square meters) in the building, furnished for a longer stay. Moreover during summer months there is room for some (young) artists for a shorter period.

There are several workrooms in the building and outside. The studios in the main building have their own toilet, shower and a small kitchen, available for a longer stay. During the summer months there is room for a few (young) artists outside the main building.

Two-dimensional and small three-dimensional works can be made inside. There is also room for sculpting and woodworking. Outside there is an opportunity to make bigger three-dimensional works. Practical experts offer support, so that one’s own formative capacities may be further developed.

Discussions, confrontations and stimulation offer support during the search for sense of one’s own works and those of others. Selections of the work of starting artists may be presented at the AllaprimA museum. During symposia in the open air museum confrontation with artists from all over the world takes place.

In the summer months courses and workshops for interested visitors are being organized. Young artists will get the opportunity to give these courses and workshops significance and guidance.

Embarking on and furthering one's art career, following a study at an art academy, can be a difficult process. Developing, widening and deepening one's vision takes time and requires fortitude. At the same time contacts must be forged and a good financial base laid for the practice. Young artists are offered many choices but often lack a location where they can work while focused and where reflection on their own work can take place.

In Finland there is more than enough harmony and space, coupled with a cultural climate that stimulates the development of visual art.

This project, to create an art centre in Finland, was originated by the Dutch artists Marja de Jong and Lucien den Arend. The Saksala ArtRadius centre and the Finnish Open Air Museum are the result of this initiative.

This unique environment offers young artists a place where they can work while discovering their own artistic direction.

Artists from all over the world stay here for a short or longer period of time to find the peace to work and to discuss with fellow artists the essence of art. For all these artists, whether just starting or experienced, the opportunity to work in an environment where space, peace and harmony abound results in a confrontation with their own conceptions and artistic vision. New insights arise.

The Art Centre is situated in the south east Finland. During the winter months the centre has places for young artists, who work here for a period of at least one month. A longer stay, up to months offers the opportunity to lay firm foundations, discover one's own path and leave with the necessary resources to enter the art world.

During one's stay contact with others in the Art Centre and with visiting artists from Finland and the rest of the world will offer insight into the artist's own work. Discussion, criticism and conversation will help to clarify one's own vision, bringing strength and meaning to the work produced.

Professional and older artists can also profit from the opportunity to enjoy the facilities during a short or extended stay. In the adjoining Open Air Museum workshops, forums and exhibitions are organized all year round.

The contacts and confrontations with the visiting international artists lead to a widening and deepening of one's personal vision.

The artist begins to build up his own network within the art world. We offer visits to a number of galleries. Finland has a solid reputation in the fields of modern design, contemporary architecture and new technology. In her renowned museums there is much to discover. Many smaller museums offer surprisingly interesting
