My current practice involves assuming the position of Founder and
Executive Director of various homemade institutions. With the authority
of a title and an organization to support me, I am able to devise
outlandish pedagogical situations that lead people to investigate in
their own experience.
I would like to experience life outside a city in order to have a chance
to focus on my art work and to comprehend my place as an artist in the
world without all the pressures involved with NYC living. I am also
specifically interested in Finland because I plan to live in Helsinki in
the next few years to get my PhD at the University of Art and Design.
Saksala seems like a magical place with a lively community and beautiful
surroundings. The art center is ideal because it seems to be the center
of many exciting world class projects and people while it retains the
charm of a small and beautiful community.
I would like to work to develop one large project or several small ones
that are quiet investigations of the surrounding land and people. If
there is the community for it, I like to do experimental pedagogical
projects, where I offer a project to work on with the public in order to
measure the social climate and to test how the community and the
landscape/architecture are functioning for each other. In the process
of studying a place, I might develop a system or translate another
system (like Ayurveda) to use as a tool for analysis. In the process I
would develop graphs and charts as well as giveaways, brochures, books,
websites, and other things which could become part of an exhibition.
