I expect to develop a steady rhythm of daily studio work,
outdoors exercise and the development of friendships with other artists.
I have not had a chance to work for many months on a single group of
works. I see this time and space as my opportunity.
I hope to complete a large-scale installation for exhibition. The
installation will use a unique method of construction I have recently
developed whereby any rigid sheet material can be cut into thousands of
small triangles and reassembled on a canvas sheet. The finished form is
flexible, but "clumps" into recognizable forms, like mountains and
valleys of a model landscape. In this way, I hope to make a room full of
domestic objects transform into an indoors mountainous landscape.
The end result is very simple - an almost childlike position on the
transformation of the trappings of adult, "civilized" life. However, the
methods to achieve this end are complex. So far, I have been able to
make this type of model landscape using drafting supplies and
woodworking tools. In the future, I'd like to model the forms digitally,
and cut the triangular pieces with a laser cutter. This is a simple
solution to reduce the tedious work.
The model will be temporary in each exhibition space, but easily
packable and transportable, since each element will fold flat.
