My experiences after four weeks in Saksala
For my artist-in-resident I was looking for a place where I strongly
could experience Finnish nature. And also how Finnish people will live
and survive this. This was one of the reasons to search for a place what
was in the rural area of Finland. Saksala ArtRadius was the place in
Finland which offers me this.
When I arrived at Saksala ArtRadius, I felt the creativeness all around
it. I immediately had the feeling that this was the place where I could
stay for 3 months and where I have the ability to develop my work in
some way I thought. Here I started almost immediately with the things
I thought about at home, but what didn't work out well. I think there
are two reasons for this. First is that there is no distraction and
second is the silence I find at Saksala ArtRadius and during my walks
through the forest.
After a few weeks, the absence of distraction gives me the feeling that
me work contains parts that I didn't consider before. Therefore my works
asked for a totally free experiment so that it can tell his own
importance. When I left home, I just thought that my work would be a
little like it was at home. Of course there would be a change because
of the change of surrounding, but the change that is necessary for my
work was so impressive I couldn't imagine. Everyday I'm happy that I'm
here and that I can experience what I'm experience now.
The multidisciplinary of the artists that are here, give me
freedom to do my own thing, but also to cross my boundaries. This gives
me so much space to develop my work on such a different way. For this,
it's necessary that everybody communicates with each other. To know what
everybody makes and the ideas about it, but also how they started here
and find their place to work. Also their experience during their stay is
very important for my own development. I can see the differences, but
also the agreements that we had after arriving here.
If I see what I already have done in this short period, I really don't
know how my work will develops. That gives me so much freedom, like the
nature takes for itself.
