Currently, one group project I have started and am spearheading is
called “Townies”. I have been taking photographs of some of the eclectic
members of the Provincetown community, the USA’s oldest artist colony,
gay mecca and popular tourist destination on Cape Cod, MA. I have been
living and visiting there for 15 years and I love watching the
characters that make the vibrant fabric of that spectacular community. I
have also seen the pains (AIDS, difficulty making a year-round living,
artists struggling and gay people estranged from their families) and
celebrations of their freedom in this beautiful place. As I showed my
work and explained my goal of making a book, many other artists took an
interest. I am hoping to show a group tribute to an 87-y.o. artist,
Ilona, at the Provincetown Art Museum this summer or next. We will have
sculptors, painters, my photos and other tributes to this icon of the
community. This naturally evolved as a collaboration from my initial
idea of an individual book. It is very exciting!
