During a period of three weeks Mari Shields will stay to
work on an ongoing project in Saksala. She has already participate in
the symposium 'REDUCTIVE ABSTRACTION, LESS IS MORE AGAIN' in spring 2005.
In 2007 she has given workshops in the art education symposium
'NATURALLY ART' and start the creating of a sculpture in in the
LABYRINTH.
During her residence period she is continuing the LABYRINTH sculpture.
Her ideas and vision on the LABYRINTH have a great value for the future
of this project.
During her stay she is also cooperating with Lucien den Arend, the curator of
the WOOD/INSTALLATION SYMPOSIUM in the LABYRINTH to
prepare this symposium.

In a forest with so many trees it is not easy to chose to complete the
sculpture started in summer 2007.
Working in winter is different than in summer, the days are short and
there is snow outside. The corridor in the basement is a good place to
peel the trees.

The longest tree needed help of the
farmer to get it from the field. The peeling has to be done outside.
The period was too short and the weather was not inviting to finish the
work this time, but in spring and/or summer Mari Shields will continue.
