On Saturday March 12 the opening has been attended by children and
adults, artists and art lovers, together an international companionship
with people from Finland, Australia, Russia, the Netherlands and
England. The children are very interested in the Tessa's and Melanie's
art works. Both artists have given art workshops in their class. In this
way the work of the children and the professional art works have got a
strong link.
The art works of both artists are different in technique, vision and
presentation. The environment they have been stayed has challenged them
to explore new territories and to cross border their boundaries. As
artists with a different background and attitude they did that in a
personal way.
Melanie has started to explore the artistic possibilities of
traditional felting and crocheting to new forms of art. All the
exhibited sculptures are soft and at the same time monumental. The art
works are full of humor and refer to her personal history and her
experience with exchange between her origin and the rural Finnish
winter.
The divers themes in Tessa's prints are connected with her interests
and her stay on an isolated place in rural Finland.
