The introduction of the painting activity is based on the photos
made by Ilse van den Berk. By comparing different images children are
searching after the differences, what seems to be important, but also
how the color is changing through the light. They notice that the color
of green is unlimited and that snow is not only white. This will direct
the the way of painting. They can make as much colors as they think they
need for their painting.
The painting class has been taken four Monday morning sessions of
two and a half hour. During this time the children started to work after
the photos of the artist and after that they could chose out of their
own collection. Some have made one painting, but most have made two art
works.

Introduction with photos by Ilse van den Berk. Her exhibition Suomen
Maisema is an important source to see an artistic view on the landscape.

The children are going to paint with gouache and will mix the colors
themselves.

Looking after the photo and think about the way how to start and to
mix the colors is an exiting moment for every one.

The photo is the starting point, the child makes its choices and
decisions based on what happens in their painting. It is interesting to
see hoe the way of painting (handwriting) influences the outcome of the
selected elements in the painting. The relation with the landscape the
children see every day is an important issue in this series of lessons.
