MARIUS MONKAM CAMEROON
My name is Marius MONKAM, Cameroonian visual and new media
artist , during the last 5 month of residence in the art centre Saksala
ArtRadius , I was working on an interactive project which topic was
“my environment and me”,
the project was the realization of an interactive CD-ROM with the aim to show
tourist places of the region of Haukivuori base on their history by combining
visual art and (interactive media art)

August 2005 the application
I want to discover another culture different from mine
I want to perform my art
I like to bring my contribution to the valorization of touristy places
I would like to support later African young artist which are abandon to
them selves without any support.
I think the Saksala ArtRadius can be a good place for me to develop my
artistic project
Realizing an interactive and educated cd rom on all the touristy places of the
region.
The theme of my plan is “MY ENVIRONMENT AND ME “
February 2006 after three months in the residence
Mon choix pour cette residence d´artiste Saksala ArtRadius
J´ ai choisi cette residence d´artiste pour plusieurs raisons notement,
Pouvoir rendre mon art utile, en l´appliquant á une activité socio-éducative et
culturelle , pouvant être utile pour les habitants de la region dans laquelle se
trouve le centre artistique.
Réaliser une œuvre qui allie à la fois plusieurs champs disciplinaires à savoir
artistique, social et culturelle
Pouvoir devellopper mon art , afin de le rendre un jour utile pour mon pays
Rencontrer et échanger les experiences avec d´autres artistes du monde de
différentes cultures et de differentes nationnalités.
Participer aux festivals, compétions, rencontres et autres évenemts artistiques
en rapport avec mon art.
Comment j´ai connu la residence Saksala ArtRadius
J´ai connu cette residence par internet à travers le site Resartis
Mon experience dans cette residence d´artiste
Je suis plutôt satisfait de mon niveau artistique actuelle car il a nettement
augmenté , ceci est due au fait que tout est mis en œuvre au centre pour que les
artistes travaillent dans les bonnes conditions, atelier, outil de
travail,connection internet, hebergement ,nutrition ;mais il reste tout de même
quelques améliorations á apporter pour rendre éfficasse la création des œuvres
médiatiques notement la creation d´un atelier mutimedia professionnel, d´un
systeme pour la presentations des œuvres multimédias quand elles sont achevées,
et d´un projecteur vidéo pour les artistes qui font dans la vidéo.

Le projet à pour but principal de créer un rapprochement entre les habitants de
la régions et leur milieu environnemental en réalisant un outil multimédia
éducatif et interactif qui présentera la région, les sites
touristiques,l’historique de chaque sites, les personnes âgées auteurs de ses .

The objective of the project was:
to create a linkage between the local populations and their environmental
medium so that they become aware of the importance of the medium in which they
live and give more attention to all what is going on around them.
- to promote this region inside and outside the country of Finland so that
people can know that there is a village in Finland so called Haukivuori , where
it is located , what kind of activity is going on there, the beauty of the
landscape and more especially the history of tourist places, because it is
important that when a tourist visits a place of interest, he should know which
are the most important places to visit , why those places are so important and
why they are different from other similar places that they can find anywhere in
the world
- Interdisciplinary ; this project was thought to be done on a base of
multidisciplinary by combining several disciplines, visual art (painting and
drawing) , new media ( the building of the interactive cd-rom using graphic
design , computer graphic , flash animation) , social (with several contact with
the population ) languages , using many language for the project ( French ,
English, and Finnish ;the Finnish version of the project is not yet ready ,
depending of the support I can received I will see how to conclude it)
- Learn and research online
In general I can say that my objectives is not achieved exactly at 100% but the
principal aim is reached.
For this exhibition the 5 continents in Saksala ( 20.03.-23.4.2006) I will
present my interactive project (the explored region and places of the project
are: Saksalanharju maisema, Saksala Art Radius, Martin Galleria, Kirkonkylän
kyäraitti, koskentila ja Nykälänkosket, pitkäniemen kalliot, Iso-Naakkima,
kraaterijärvi, kapustasalmen maisema, kerovuoren aarnialue, kirrko-ja
kellotapuli, Hauki-Halli, I have built also in this project a small game space
(Haukivuori game zone) with three kind of games; sauna game, bicycle game in
summer time and snow scooter in winter. I will also present my paints , and
graphics works on the theme “ my environment and me “.

To conclude I just invite the population of Haukivuori and of its surroundings
to come and see what we have carried out, the other artists and I during this
residence time in Saksala ArtRadius .
There is also the possibility to meet
Cameroonian art which will be represented in this exhibition by artists
especially coming
from Cameroon to present Cameroon and Cameroon art during this exhibition.
