To make the children's forest
to a place where children will get new ideas and see in how different
ways it is possible to make constructions, it is the intention to
cooperate with artists from different countries and cultures.
The first invited artists in this project were the participating
in the artist-in-residence program winter 2005-2006. They were
working with the children of the asema koulu and were also telling and
showing about their traditional ways of making houses.

The first drawings show the traditional
way children see their environment. Without more explanation, more
inspiration and more challenge they will easily chose for this way of
expressing.
Artists can learn by these experiences that they have to do more than only give
the possibility to start. Children are no artists and in the same time they do not want to make
mistakes.
The international artists from the artist-in-residence program were telling and
showing about their way of building houses. It is important to show the
different forms and let the children make conclusions about the differences they
see.

Guidance during the working process is
important to show children the possibilities of their own design. Looking for
solutions when there are problems and reflection on other works or
constructions.
With new ideas, clear explanations and visualizations of the own solutions the
work of the children are getting more and more developed.
Just with different artists and different cultures it is clearer to explain what
can be possible.

Technical explanation about the space,
perspective, material, construction etc are helpful in finding an own way to
express.
After these artists other artists will participate in the project. They will use
their professionalism to inspire the children with the realization of the
children's forest.
